Ultrasound

Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to create an image. It does not use ionizing radiation (or x-rays) to generate the image and is considered a very safe imaging technique.

It is a very versatile imaging technique, used for evaluation of many different body parts. It is most commonly used to evaluate the solid organs in the abdomen, such as the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, and aorta. It is also very helpful in evaluating the organs of the pelvis in female patients.

How Should I Prepare?

Due to the wide variety of ultrasound procedures, examination prep varies greatly. You will receive specific instructions by one of our employees prior to arrival.

What Should I Expect?

Once you arrive at our imaging center, you will be escorted to one of our ultrasound imaging suites by a trained sonographer, who will take a brief history to determine the indication for the examination.

During the examination, you will lie comfortably on the ultrasound table and the sonographer will evaluate the areas of concern and save several images. These pictures will be sent to one of our Radiologists for review, and a final report will be sent to your physician.
